TCCA Municipal Court Clerk Certification Program
TCCA partnered with TMCEC, TMCA, and Texas State University, to create an educational development program in 1996. The Municipal Court Clerk Certification Program was established to provide professional development and educational growth to Court Staff in Municipal and Justice Courts.
The program is comprised of three levels. Participants may achieve certification upon successful completion of each of the three levels earning the titles of Certified Court Clerk Level I, Certified Court Clerk Level II, and Certified Municipal Court Clerk.
A. Eligibility Requirement
Participants must be employed by a municipal court or justice court in order to participate in the certification program.
B. Steps for Certification
The certification program is comprised of three levels: Level I, Level II, and Level III. Each level has its own requirements for certification.

Testing:
Participants must pay the respective fee, apply and pass all parts of the Level I certification exam.
Education:
Participants must also complete 40 hours of education in the three years preceding the date that they apply for certification.
Apply for Certification:
Lastly, participants must complete an Application for Certification Level I and return the application with required documentation.
Certified CCCI:
The application is processed and those who have met all the requirements will be issued a Level I Certified certificates and can place CCCI at the end of their name.
Annual Renewal of CCCI Certification:
Certified Court Clerks at all levels must complete annual continued education to maintain Certification and apply for renewal annually by August 31st. For additional information on Certification and Renewal, select the proper link for each level: Certified Court Clerk Level I.

In order to participate in Level III, participants must be Level II Certified Court Clerks. Participants must pay the respective fee, apply and pass all parts of the Level III certification exam.Court Observation/Journal:
Participants must complete Court Observations and write a Journal that must receive a passing grade.Assessment Clinic:
Participants must attend an Assessment Clinic that is hosted by the TMCEC.Education:
The applicant must provide proof that within three years, the applicant has completed specified continued education related to completing Level III.Apply for Certification:
Lastly, participants must complete an Application for Certification Level III and return the application with the required documentation.Certified CMCC:
The application is processed and those who have met all the requirements will be issued a Level III Certified certificates and can place CMCC at the end of their name.Annual Renewal of CMCC Certification:
Certified Court Clerks at all levels must complete annual continued education to maintain Certification and apply for renewal annually by August 31st. ONLY Level III Certified Court Clerks that have had their certification expired and became inactive, may file for reactivation with TMCEC upon providing proof of 40 approved educational hours, that must include a Legislative update provided by TMCEC, within the preceding three years of the date you are requesting for reactivation. Certificates of attendance, along with a renewal application, must be submitted to TMCEC. Please take note again that this new rule only applies to Level III. Visit TMCEC website for an application to request reactivation.

If you are no longer employed with a Municipal Court, you will not be contacted for Renewal Certification purposes. It will be the responsibility of the Certified Clerk to send in renewals by August 31 of each year to TMCEC. TCCA Education Committee Scholarship Program
The Education Committee of the Texas Court Clerks Association encourages development and educational growth of Texas Court Clerks by administering an education Scholarship Program that promotes professionalism. The scholarship program is offering up to $650 in scholarships for attendance at TCCA Annual Conference and up to $150 for attendance of a TMCEC Seminar. This scholarship program may be able to assist you in your educational professional development. This program is used as an aid to help TCCA Members cover some cost associated with achieving or maintaining clerk certification.
