Court Clerk Certification


TCCA partnered with TMCEC, TMCA, and Texas State University, to create an educational development program in 1996. The Municipal Court Clerk Certification Program was established to provide professional development and educational growth to Court Staff in Municipal and Justice Courts.

The program is comprised of three levels. Participants may achieve certification upon successful completion of each of the three levels earning the titles of Certified Court Clerk Level I, Certified Court Clerk Level II, and Certified Municipal Court Clerk.

A. Eligibility Requirement
Participants must be employed by a municipal court or justice court in order to participate in the certification program.

B. Steps for Certification
The certification program is comprised of three levels: Level I, Level II, and Level III. Each level has its own requirements for certification.

1. Level I Testing Process & Certification (CCC1)
Testing:
Participants must pay the respective fee, apply and pass all parts of the Level I certification exam.

Education:
Participants must also complete 40 hours of education in the three years preceding the date that they apply for certification.

Apply for Certification:
Lastly, participants must complete an Application for Certification Level I and return the application with required documentation.

Certified CCCI:
The application is processed and those who have met all the requirements will be issued a Level I Certified certificates and can place CCCI at the end of their name.

2. Level II Testing Process & Certification (CCCII)
Testing:
In order to participate in Level II, participants must be Level I Certified Court Clerks. Participants must pay the respective fee, apply and pass all parts of the Level II certification exam.

Education:
Participants must also complete 40 hours of education in the three years preceding the date that they apply for certification.

Apply for Certification:
Lastly, participants must complete an Application for Certification Level II and return the application with required documentation.

Certified CCCII:
The application is processed and those who have met all the requirements will be issued a Level II Certified certificates and can place CCCII at the end of their name.

3. Level III Testing Process & Certification (CMCC)
Testing:
In order to participate in Level III, participants must be Level II Certified Court Clerks. Participants must pass the Level III certification exam.

Court Observation/Journal:
Participants must complete Court Observations and write a Journal that must receive a passing grade.

Assessment Clinic:
Participants must attend an Assessment Clinic that is hosted by the TMCEC.

Education:
The applicant must provide proof that within three years, the applicant has completed specified continued education related to completing Level III.

Apply for Certification:
Lastly, participants must complete an Application for Certification Level III and return the application with the required documentation.

Certified CMCC:
The application is processed and those who have met all the requirements will be issued a Level III Certified certificates and can place CMCC at the end of their name.

4. Annual Renewal of Certification
Certified Court Clerks at all levels must complete annual continued education to maintain Certification Level. The scholarship program offers $150 and $500 Scholarships for attendance at approved seminars/conferences.
